When you have a dream, go for it.I have a dream to make a difference. Recently, I've been back to Renci after a few months of hiatus from the exams. Ah, the exams. It feels great to meet Zoe again :) Because the last time I saw her was last year, and definitely awesome to meet Meizhen, and Shin Hau. Yup, and I'm feeling happy to mention that we'll *** so ppl who read this, and are interested in getting an experience in helping the elderly, please contact me *** Currently, its a nice small group, consisting of two regulars, Me and MZ. Knowing that she'll be married soon, haha I brought the topic up at the right time :) I've been thinking about it for months. I told my dad about it, since he came back from HK yesterday. Somehow, I don't sense a great approval from dad, Humph. He told me to concentrate on my studies. hahaha anyway I know what I want to do, so I'll see How. And also, I learnt about a sad thing that happened. I think writing it here is much better than telling anyone, who wants to listen to the story of an old man? Who really wants. They do exist. People who are kind and willing to contribute in any little ways they can to the society. They do exist. Those who care about the feelings of others, the neglected, the forgotten. And they actually remember that they have a more important role to play in brightening the lives of the old tree, rather than the young sapling. He does exist. The man who sings. The man who is cheerful always despite his deteriorating health. The man who has lost his legs. The man who sings happily when pushed by the nurses to the toilet. And they do exist. The 'family' that didn't care about him (alive?) or (dead?). I'm not sure of the full picture, but from the account of my friend, he didn't have any funeral. These reptiles do exist. And they do not care. And they exist too. The people who are merely acting as the birds and bees in the environment, the windy breeze. When the Old Tree is dead, they'll ask the loggers albeit in an anxious manner, "Where is the tree that has been giving us a playground and happiness in our little lives?" They want to bid him a farewell. The logger replies "The Tree is dead, don't bother looking for it. Don't bother looking for Me." And I'm glad I've realised the existence of such man. Man, whose character and values disgust me. But, still we live among them, and they live among us. Hence, what is the best we can do is to do our best as the Man we are proud to be, and want to grow to be. While I think it is practical to be skilled in an academic way to be able to survive in this society, I think it's also important to be a good person, and not let such values get forgotten along the rat race to be the best. I should race, but I should just do my best. Because, after the race whether you are the first or somewhere in the middle, you're still a rat. Perhaps, a just little fitter than the other. back to the top? |
