Wednesday, April 3, 2013 @ 3:16 AMNUS student
I learnt the importance of not over-relying on the computer. And also, to save my fail as a new file. I wrote something about my april fools day and I overwrite the file with another thing. Now, its really gone. :( My April Fools' day this year would be the most memorable April Fool's day in my life. It narrates my life of being an NUS student - shortlived though, for two days. My schedule looked like this: (1April) 1. Met Zhi Heng (my sis' close guyfriend) and went for a Biology lecture (Something to do with flagella, cilia, intracellular movement, microtubules). 2. Went to UTown and met James (ZH and my sis' mutual friend from cheer) 3. Went to the central library with J and ZH (they helped me sneak in!) 4. Went for lunch with my sis, together with her lunch buddies and my cousin. 5. Returned to the central library and read a book written by Richard P. Feynman - which was boring. 6. Went for a Pharmacy Law lecture (Something to do with medical advertising and law) with Shermain 7. Had a quick dinner 8. Went for an environmental lecture (The state and conservation of Southeast Asian Biodiversity) 9. Went back to Hall with my sister (2April) 1. Had breakfast in Hall and surprised by the aunty's generousity. (Now, I miss waffles) 2. Went for a social work lecture (Something to do with Human development lifespan: Is there a crisis in middle adulthood?) 3. Had lunch with my cousin 4. Mini-toured TechnoEdge (Engineering faculty) then hopped on a shuttle bus to the science faculty 5. Had a nice talk with a stranger patient. It is thrilling to be in a school when you are not enrolled, to immerse yourself in the life of a typical student, to understand lectures and find them interesting to you, to meet new people, places and to taste new tastes. It is the spirit of exploring. I really, truly thank my sister for letting me join her in activities. It is the beginning of my 2 week break before school officially starts for me, and I had to use this chance to enjoy all that I can. Going to school, is indeed enjoyable. From the four lectures I have attended of different domains, I feel more enriched after learning so many things. The biology lecture was much of a recap of what we learnt from A-levels, but we learn much more about the intracellular movement, and things like what is the difference between the cilia and the flagella. It is interesting, but I honestly think that YES, luckily I did not choose to enter the science faculty in Uni. After looking at such information for the biology lectures I have in junior college, I know that enough is enough already. The pharmacy law lecture felt boring to Shermain. I thought it was all right, because it was something novel to me. Looking at the Attorney-General's Chambers' Legislation Editing and Authentic Publishing System made me go "whoa!" I think in University, what people be it pharmacist or lawyers, what they suddenly learn has very, very practical applications in the real world which they are about to enter once they graduate. Unlike junior college, we learn so much about the bacteria, human genome project.. it seems like such information will just be dusty as we won't ever use much of it probably for the rest of my life unless I'm studying science. In the pharmacy law lecture, I learnt a little bit about the difference between the Medical Act, the Medical (advertising and sales) act and how word play is so genuine. In law, you have to scrutinise the minor details and although two acts seem similar, the difference in phrasing lead to differences that are conspicuous. The environmental lecture was super interesting, and would have been brilliant if not for the fact that they got the invitation timing wrong. I had to wait close to an hour before exchange students from Duke came in. Learning more about how our actions (or inactions) impact the biodiversity is worrying. And knowing that Pulau Ubin may not be a green island for Singapore in future. The social work lecture was quite interesting, but it could have been better if the lecturer was animated/ more fun. I realise that Hall life is pretty fun because of the vibrance and the activities they organise. From my sister's room I could hear boys shouting vulgarities above my room, and then singing after that. It may be distracting but, I think it is energetic. It was a great two days and I can never expect an experience/ exposure better than that (unless I go again! :D) THANKS JIE <3 p=""> 3> back to the top? |
